How to Use This Website:

We designed this website so any person could "visit" points of geologic interest in Jo Daviess County without having to physically go there.

We understand that not everyone is 100% computer friendly, or web friendly for that matter, so we wanted to make it as easy as possible to navigate through our site.

LINKS

CONGRATULTIONS!

You successfully clicked on a link to get to this page!

Each page contains hyperlinks throughout the text.  Hyperlinks are nothing more than clickable connections to other webpages from the page you are currently on.  The links throughout our website start as yellow, underlined words or phrases.  After you have followed a link at least once, it will appear green.

SPECIAL LINKS

We've also placed special kinds of links throughout our website.  Once in a while you'll see pictures that are really quite small -- too small to make viewing possible in many cases.  These pictures will likely be outlined in yellow indicating that you can click on them to get a larger version.  These miniatures photos are called "Thumbnails" and they are designed to make your pages load faster while surfing the web.  We've given you plenty of opportunities to "expand" your viewing capabilities throughout this wonderful journey.  You can practice using the picture below, a scene from beautiful Jo Daviess County:

BUTTONS, BUTTONS, and MORE BUTTONS!

At the bottom (and sometimes top - BONUS!) of each page, you'll find a row of buttons that look similar the ones below:

If you haven't guessed it already, clicking on any one of these buttons will take you to a page related to the text appearing on them.  For example, the HOME button will take you to our homepage (the very beginning of this whole fabulous site).  The ROUTE MAP button is VERY IMPORTANT!  It can link you all stops along the virtual trip route.  The other buttons should be self-explanatory.  If not, don't be afraid to click!  You can always use the "Back" button on your browser to get you out of trouble.

AN APPLE FOR THE TEACHER?

Once in a while you'll see an icon floating above the buttons that looks a bit like this...

...tasty, right?

Well, it's full of good flavor for sure.  This apple represents a link to some sort of educational extension or activity related to the stop you are checking out.  We tried to design meaningful activities that teachers could carry out in their classrooms emphasizing important concepts along the virtual trip route.  In addition to the extensions page you'll find at the end of the apple links, we've created a page LOADED with links and resources for teachers and students.  It's overflowing with possibilities!

ARE YOU READY?

After saying all of the above, we think it is time for you to get rolling...or clicking...so get outta here!  GO HOME!
