Professional Activities

The Illinois Professional Teaching Standards (IPTS) list a number of indicators of teacher professionalism.  Your assignment is to prepare answers to the italicized questions that follow each indicator.

The competent teacher understands education as a profession, maintains standards of professional conduct, and provides leadership to improve students’ learning and well-being.

The competent teacher:

11C.  understands school policies and procedures.  Read a copy of the school policies and procedures manual.  Discuss with your cooperating teacher the important sections.  Describe why they are the important sections.

11D.  understands legal issues in education.  What is the most common legal issue that the school has faced?  How do they address the issue?

11E. understands the importance of active participation and leadership in professional organizations.   What organizations does your cooperating teacher belong to and what activities does he/she participate in?  Why?
