February 14, 2008 Tragedy

The Department of Geology and Environmental Geosciences and Northern Illinois University have suffered a tragedy both individually and collectively.   While we do not know the specific paths of the next few hours and days, we will come together, we will support each other, we will heal.

The department cannot begin to express its appreciation for the words of sympathy, support, and encouragement that are pouring in from all corners of the State, the Nation, and the World.   We have been especially appreciative of the words of support from many individuals at Virginia Tech University.

To all our friends who have contacted us and to those who we know have us in their thoughts, we thank you from the depths of our collective heart.   With your support and our own strength, we will move down those unknown paths.   We will move on.
